Kybella is the FDA’s first and only FDA-approved injectable drug for contouring and improving the appearance of double chins and jowls. It works by destroying fat cells. The fat dissolves in the body and is excreted by the kidneys and intestines. It may require multiple treatments.
As the active ingredient, synthetic deoxycholic acid helps break down and absorb dietary fats in the body. Kybella helps to destroy fat cells when injected directly into the fat, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once your aesthetic goal has been achieved, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not needed.
Though typically used for double chins, Kybella can also be used to treat stubborn fat in the jowl areas as well!

While the treated area does swell and remains tender for a week or two after treatment, most patients can resume their normal everyday activities the following day. Swelling and bruising can be concealed with a scarf or bandana.
